Development Experience
The theme for this Halloween Jam was "cursed." A couple days before starting the jam, an idea come to my mind for a platformer with limited vision, and with the Halloween Jam coming up, it seemed like the perfect time to test the idea out.
Most of the game was simple to develop, since the player movement and key mechanics were all things I had done in the past. Most of the difficulty with developing the game came in the form of adding monsters. Both enemies were designed to interact with the flashlight in opposite ways, with one chasing the player if the light is on, while the other hides if the light is shined on them. This not only created different purposes for toggling the flashlight on and off, but opened the door for interesting puzzles once both were placed in the same level.
Overall, the game was a huge success, with many praising the game's atmosphere and horror elements. I could honestly see myself expanding this into a full game concept, though doing so require a lot of work and extra content. What the game has now would be pretty shallow if it was expanded past 10 levels, but it's a solid foundation to add onto.
