Development Experience
During the entire month of May, an event called "Another Workshop Jam" was held, where developers from across the Workshop community would compete to make the best character possible under the theme of "unorthodox." Wanting to participate in the jam, the concept of Darc Sharc was born. I enlisted the help of McDucky, a programmer and close friend in the Rivals of Aether Workshop community, to help with the programming side of the project, while I handled all of the character's art.
Development for the character themself hadn't actually started until around the 14th of May, as life events prevented me from working on the project. While the art side of the project was relatively simple, programming the character's main card gimmick was very complex and ambitious. Fortunately, we were able to quickly finish the character with little to no issues, and in a matter of 2 weeks, Darc Sharc was ready to premiere.
Darc Sharc was met with mixed criticisms. A lot of people greatly enjoyed the character, with one of the jam judges even considering them as the best character of the event. Others dismissed the character as being too complex and disorienting to fight. Overall, the character scored 14th (31.4/40) out of 31 entries in the jam (this was VERY close, however, as the 10th place winner scored a 31.7/40), and while the placement is rather lackluster, I'm still proud of what McDucky and I were able to pull off in only 2 weeks.
